We created a ‘Zine entitled “Who We Are” that shared stories of community learning, making, and creating. Artists and Makers were interviewed about their lifestyle as creatives which served to highlight their journey and be a source of inspiration to others. The content captured during the project was reshared as a ‘zine, inspiring others to view themselves as makers and encouraging their participation in classes and potential membership at the Westside Makerspace.
The zine offered a glimpse into the lives of makers in the community, emphasizing their importance. By bringing together diverse stories, the zine delved deeper into the backgrounds and perspectives of the makers, highlighting the necessity of such a creative space. Moreover, the creation of the zine highlighted the lead artist involved in its production.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rachel Dominguez-Benner makes moments, memories, and opportunities that spark creative joy in others. A trained Graphic Designer with a love of screenprint, ink illustration, paper crafting, storytelling, and gifting – Rachel is a maker of many mediums who loves the cross-pollination of ideas that emerges in creative community spaces. With a vibrant, bold style and emphasis on original brush ink illustrations, Rachel creates giftable art for everyday use in your kitchen and home. Professionally, Rachel is a Designer and Co-op Developer rooted in Dayton, Ohio since 2014 with clients across the United States. Rachel DB Creative brings additional capacity to nonprofits and co-ops by contract support in Graphic Design, Communications, Membership Development, Creative Process + Co-op Experience. Rachel serves as Board President of the Dayton Sewing Collaborative.
